PostHeaderIcon Intramuros Old World Mystique Opens Heritage Month.

Intramuros once served as the political, cultural, educational, religious and commercial center of the Spanish colony in the Philippines. Its walls are steeped in history, its cobblestone streets a witness to our forefathers’ struggle to gain independence from foreign invaders. World War II and natural disasters reduced the Walled City, as it is called, to shambles.

The former bastion of the Spanish occupation is now restored, a celebrated tourist destination in the heart of Manila. A cornucopia of activities will showcase Intramuros’ colonial charm and rich history from April 30 to May 2 in celebration of Heritage Month 2010.

The three-day event opens with a heritage lecture for public school teachers by Professor Felipe M. de Leon, Jr., chairman of the Committee on Intangible Heritage of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, and an Arts Studies professor at the University of the Philippines. “Filipino Cultural Identity: A Heritage of Well-Being,” will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Almacenes Reales in Fort Santiago.

“Education should always be rooted in one’s culture for it to be effective and an asset for nation-building,” says Professor de Leon. He describes culture as “a heritage of strengths, knowledge systems, skills, and practices that are the basis for sustainable development and social well-being, if properly understood and harnessed.”

Misa Baclayana, an ancient musical score impressive for its depth and beautiful harmony, was discovered in Baclayon Church in Bohol a few years ago. The mass will be sung at 6:00 p.m. at the Manila Cathedral by the Loboc Children’s Choir, who won first prize and earned the Gold Medal in the Children’s Choir category in the 6th International Folksongs Festival “Europe and Its Songs” held in Barcelona in 2003. The choir also received the grand prize, the Festival Cup, for achieving the overall highest mark in all categories, besting 12 other choirs from all over the world.

The Misa Baclayana will be officiated by His Excellency Jesus A. Dosado, CM-DD, archbishop of Ozamiz, Misamis Occidental. Accompanying organist will be Alejandro Consolacion of the Manila Cathedral and the Las Piñas Boys’ Choir.

By nightfall, “Intramuros is Forever,” a photo competition, will end in awarding ceremonies and the unveiling of the exhibit. The contest winner will receive a trophy, medal and cash prize of P25,000. The 1st and 2nd runners-up will receive P15,000 and P10,000, respectively. Of the more than 2,100 entries, the top 100 photos will be exhibited at the lobby of Palacio del Gobernador for the duration of Heritage Month.

On Saturday, May 1, a plant bazaar will be held at Puerta del Parian at 9:00 a.m., followed by indigenous games with Samahang Makasining on the same day. Luxurious mantones de Manila, China-made silk shawls that became popular in Spain during the galleon trade, will be exhibited at Plaza San Luis in the evening.

“Living Museum,” a by-invitation cultural program featuring Gener Caringal, the Philippine Ballet Theatre and the University of the East Drama Department, will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Casa Manila.

Capping the heritage celebrations is a Santacruzan sa Intramuros down the cobbled streets of Intramuros. Participants will wear Lito Perez’s Camp Suki period gowns and ornate headdresses. Perez is currently an active board member of the Fashion Designers Association of the Philippines, of which he is former president.

The National Heritage Month is made possible through the auspices of the Department of Tourism, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Filipino Heritage Festival Inc., Zest Airways Inc., Titania Wine Cellar Inc. and ClicktheCity.com.

PostHeaderIcon The Medical City Acquisitions Expand Nationwide Presence

About The Medical City

The Medical City (TMC) is a world-class health care organization with over forty years’ experience in hospital operations and administration, serving some 40,000 in-patients and 400,000 out-patients annually. TMC has a medical staff of over 1,000 physicians who are established experts in their various fields of specialization. This core of professionals is complemented by a 2,100-strong human resource complement, engaged in allied medical, administrative and support services.

At the heart of TMC’s service philosophy are new paradigms of hospital care addressing the entire continuum of health needs, and the patient as an equal, informed and empowered partner in the pursuit and preservation of health. TMC is accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI), the world’s most prestigious accrediting body for international health care organizations, and is a 2008 Superbrands Philippines awardee. www.themedicalcity.com.

The Medical City Acquisitions Expand Nationwide Presence

16th April 2010, Manila, Philippines – The Medical City (TMC), one of the country’s premiere healthcare organizations, today announced that it has assumed the management and operations of the Great Saviour International Hospital (GSIH) and the Global Medical Network (GMN) in Iloilo, in anticipation of a full purchase of these facilities planned before year’s end. At the same time, TMC has acquired existing sister sites in Luzon, including the Mercedes Medical Center (MMC) in Pampanga and a network of outpatient clinics in Dagupan, Olongapo and Cavite. TMC is increasing its presence in Luzon and Visayas as part of a national expansion strategy, aimed at offering its distinct brand of health care to a broader patient base.

“These acquisitions concretize our firm commitment to providing Filipinos greater accessibility to world-class health care services,” says Dr. Alfredo R.A. Bengzon, TMC’s President and CEO. “We intend to make substantial investments in enhancing the facilities and services available to our patients in these locations,” Dr. Bengzon added.

TMC’s service is distinguished by a unique value proposition expressed in its slogan, “Where patients are partners.” This philosophy encourages collaboration between the hospital’s doctors and patients, creating a special partnership directed at addressing patients’ specific healthcare needs. Part of the transition of the new additions to the TMC family thus involves embracing and enlivening this novel patient partnership philosophy in their own service areas.

“These are very exciting times, and we welcome the opportunity to become part of the growing TMC family. We believe that there is tremendous synergy from the shared visions of our institutions in uplifting the state of the nation’s health, with this to be achieved through productive and innovative partnerships among health care institutions, professionals and beneficiaries,” says Dr. Evangeline C. Johnson, GSIH and MMC’s President and CEO.

GSIH is a tertiary hospital with a capacity of over 100 beds located in a convenient site along the Iloilo waterfront.  MMC is a level-two facility in Angeles City with a capacity of 50 beds. The hospitals, as well as their clinic counterparts – GMN in Iloilo City, Far East Health Service in Olongapo City, Zambales, Fleet Health Medical Clinic in Sangley, Cavite, and Evacare Medical Clinic in Dagupan City, Pangasinan – all boast of accreditation by TRICARE, the worldwide health care program that serves retired US military servicemen and their dependents.

“TMC looks forward to upgrading the quality of health care services provided to this important client group,“ Dr. Bengzon stressed.

Acquiring these facilities brings the number of TMC locations to eighteen (18).

PostHeaderIcon WWW.IBANANGAYON.PH site is still down, PPCRV Initial Results to the rescue.

The official Comelec election results website www.ibanangayon.ph is still down as of 9:19 p.m. However, I believed Comelec is so much busy earlier with PCOS machines most especially with the defected ones.

So for now, just check out the ppcrv initial results.

For one sealed vote, one can make a big difference!

PostHeaderIcon My first time voting experience for the Election 2010 – checked!

I woke up at exactly five twenty-one in the morning (5:21 a.m.) and made some stretching. Then after sipped a hot cup of coffee (the only guard that made me wide-awake until the voting stuff is over).

My family and I left our home together at quarter passed six in the morning (6:15 a.m.), we arrived at Bagong Nayon 1 Elementary School precinct# 0348A, Room 155 at around six thirty in the morning (6:30 a.m.) prior the school bell (indication that the voting is ready) at seven in the morning (7:00 a.m.).

We came in early and so we were able to search for our names and get validated before time. I was at the number 6 then mama at number 7 papa at number 8 and ate at 9 on the line. Wow! We’re on top ten! ^_^

First, second, third, fourth, fifth and then it’s my turn to vote. I was so nervous, my hands were shaking but I carefully shaded the “egg shape”. No more, no less. Then I proceed to the next step. I went in front of the pcos machine together with my secrecy folder and I myself handed over the ballot into it and I’m done voting.

It takes only 3 to 5 minutes to vote and so I believed that the PCOS machine is 100% OKAY. I am confident that my votes are protected because I myself did the whole procedure so I guess there’s no need for me to worry.

If truth be told, “daig ng maagap ang masipag,” I’m so glad that we were there on time, done voting on time and finally got home by seven forty in the morning (7:40 a.m.).

I planned to get back on bed a while ago but since this was my first time to vote, I decided to get online and somehow make my own coverage for own sake.

BTW. I think providing a free ride for the voters is illegal on election proper. Of course we did not jump into that proposal and that’s how it was. ALRIGHT.

I am now a legal citizen of this country. Now I can truly say that I’m proudly Pinay and I’m saying it again: What I did is what I believed I have taught to do the right thing.

So therefore I conclude that the flow of election 2010 in our community is so far, so good. As far as my observation is concerned, pcos machines are safe and sound, but for some who has black intentions – GOOD LUCK!

I assumed that all voters are extra conscious and now forced to make a bright choice because voters are bored of the same old brand new schemes.

I also think that *find your precinct website made a big help in providing precincts locations accurately to the voters who searched online, who are able to locate their precincts without hassle before the election 2010. However, I feel sorry for those who doesn’t have internet at home.

TIP: just bring a VALID ID. NO NEED for KODIKO! Because someone might use it or perhaps influence others to vote for their list of candidates, when we know that someone has their own choice too!

For one sealed vote, one can make a big difference!

I know this is so gasgas but please VOTE WISELY!

PostHeaderIcon Star Cinema’s Overly Thankful for the Awards They’ve received.

Star Cinema or the least called as the ABS-CBN Film Productions, Inc. is one of the film productions that I like most here in our country (Philippines). For some obvious reasons, Star Cinema has it all. Some made good films but a-l-t-e-r-n-a-t-e-l-y.

In year 1993, Star Cinema started making films and continuously producing outstanding films and creating vast names for the most part in the entertainment industry that made Philippine movie world class. Aminin!

Well guess what a hard working team has now? Star Cinema has awards!

Bagging most of the awards in the recently held 26th Philippine Movie Press Club’s Star Awards for Movies, ABS-CBN’s giant movie outfit, Star Cinema management is overly grateful for the recognitions bestowed upon the said outfit.

Roxy liquigan, Advertising and Promotions Director of Star Cinema, shared in an interview that no words can described how thankful he is for the overwhelming support of the moviegoers and award-giving bodies, “Ang mga ganitong pagkakataon ang mas nagtutulak sa amin to do better every time. Malaki po ang pasasalamat namin sa laki ng suportang ibinibigay ng tao sa Star (Cinema). Pati sa lahat ng award-giving bodies na patuloy ang pagkilala sa mga pelikulang aming pinaghihirapan.”

Seven trophies went to In My Life — Movie Actress for Vilma Santos, Movie Actor for John Lloyd Cruz, Movie Supporting Actor for Luis Manzano, Movie Director for Olivia Lamasan, Movie Cinematography for Charlie Peralta, Movie Original Screenplay for Raymond Lee, Olivia Lamasan and Senedy Que, and hailed as the Movie of the Year.

Mica Dela Cruz was declared as the Movie Child Performer for her effective portrayal in Star Cinema’s “T2.”

Another significant award-giving body gave recognition to Star Cinema’s excellence when it comes to filmmaking, the 12th Gawad Pasado.

A group of elementary, high school and college teachers, both in public and private schools called Pampelikulang Samahan Ng Mga Dalubguro (PASADO) screened local movies and granted Star Cinema artists and staff the most number of awards — Pinakapasadong Pelikula for “And I Love You So”, Pinakapasadong Aktres for Bea Alonzo, Pinakapasadong Aktor for John Lloyd Cruz, Pinakapasadong Katuwag na Aktor for Derek Ramsay, Pinakapasadong Katuwang na Aktres for Mica Dela Cruz, Pinakapasadong Sinematograpiya for Gary Gardoze, Pinakapasadong Editing for Manet Dayrit, at Pinakapasadong Tunog for Michael Idioma.

These awards are physical evidences that Star Cinema has been giving its viewers quality movies through the years.

Don’t take the credits for granted, this is a challenge for the other film productions to get motivated and make a stunning success movies out of their team like Star Cinema, hence, “Tangkilikin po natin ang Pelikulang Filipino.”
