Cases of long-term health problems like obesity, cardiovascular ailments, and insulin resistance have been increasing year after year. These have prompted medical professionals to look beyond medical treatments and seek effective preventive measures. Infant nutrition, particularly protein intake during the early stages of infancy, has been identified in strengthening or weakening a person’s long-term health.

Controlled random examinations in preterm and term infants cited by the research paper, “Early origins of cardiovascular disease. Is there a unifying hypothesis?” by Lucas Singhal, proved that “early nutrition has a major impact on long-term health including cognitive function, bone health, and risk factors for cardiovascular disease.”

Dr. Atul Singhal, a professor of Pediatric Nutrition and deputy director of the University College London, explained in a forum that the long-term growth and development of infants depended not just on the quantity of nourishment they receive but on the quality as well. He also heads the Clinical Trials and Cardiovascular Nutrition group at the MRC Childhood Nutrition Research Centre’s Institute of Child Health at University College London, which researched on “The Importance of Protein for Long-term Health.”

Although a high protein intake may improve and accelerate young infants’ growth, parents should focus on the quality of protein they feed their babies. “While a higher protein intake has short-term advantages for growth, adverse programming by high protein intake and faster growth suggest that the optimum nutrition of infants is more complex than simply ‘more is better,’” said Dr. Singhal.

Alpha protein or á-lactalbumin is beneficial to the overall health of infants.   Unlike other whey-based proteins, alpha protein is easily digested by babies and lessens the possibility of vomiting, spitting up, or food intolerance of babies. This important protein helps improve the kidney function of babies and the absorption of essential minerals like zinc.

Alpha protein also enhances babies’ sleep patterns and appetites. It contains helpful amino acids with tryptophan which also enhance the disposition or mood of children. Children who are given alpha protein are healthier and stand to have more enduring health benefits.

The Philippines is heating up again – this time in the dance and music scene – with a hot new dance video taking the country into the spotlight in the digital world. The viral sensation captured hip Pinoy dance groups moving to the beat of the pied piper of Philippine Tourism, Apl.de.Ap of the Black Eyed Peas.

It all began with a song – “Take U to the Philippines“, the incredibly catchy tune, which went viral last September along with its absolutely stunning music video, talks about taking one’s beloved to see the beauty of the Philippines and of its people. Written by Apl.de.Ap himself, the song plays off like a love letter to the rockstar’s home country, sending shockwaves through the digital space.

The passion evoked by the music video and its artistic expression of nationalism caught the imagination and stirred the pride of several top dance groups. With the help of the Philippine Department of Tourism, they came together and laid down their own spin on Apl’s song while showcasing the amazing wealth of Filipino dance talent amidst the backdrop of spectacular sights in the Philippines.

The dancers ranged wildly in style, from world class hip-hop champs like the Philippine All-Stars, Manoeuvres, PinoyFunk’in Styles, Switch and Stylettos to talented student groups like Ateneo Blue Babble, La Salle Dance Company, U.P. Street and UST Salinggawi. Not to mention individual performers like Chris Nocon, Alys Serdenia, Jonas Orig Sana, Angel de Rivera, Andro de Rivera, Yang Gagelonia and Rosie Pajela-Marzan, were all equal in passion and energy in expressing through movement Pinoy pride and love for the Philippines.

I barely watch cartoons since I’m on my 20 plus age. However, age is only a number. I’m older by age but in my heart I’m still a kid and I’m acting my age!

I’m a fan of animation but I don’t really watch every cartoon on TV or in big screen. Like any other parent (even if I’m not), I want to gaze at those animated films that will keep every viewer amused from beginning to end and that kids or even parents can get a moral lesson like sticking up with your family and stop being self-centered.

And like in a real movie, there’s a clash in some of the animated films, but it doesn’t mean that it has to be violent and pushy especially when the majority of the viewer is a kid.

So I thought that Alvin and the Chipmunks is one of those animated films that I would want to watch over and over with no hesitancy!

Like one time, I watched Alvin and the Chipmunks (remake) with my granddaughter (daughter of my niece) I remember that in 2003 and she actually remembers the comical moves when she was only three! The film is very likable that even I can’t get enough of watching it.

Besides, who among you does not know about the Seville trio: the famous Alvin “the chipmunk” who’s fond of rollercoaster, the innocent Theodore, and the very intellect Simon that is almost like Einstein?

What’s more is who among you doesn’t love The Chipmunks adorable female counterpart: Brittany, Jeanette, and Eleanor otherwise known as The Chippetes?

For sure we all know and love them!

I guess every kid’s problem now has been solved!

We’re in the second quarter of the year, first week of April, and its official – its summer time!

Everybody’s looking forward to summer fun and beach outings, etc. However, for us, we are simply relaxed just by staying at home. Watch tapes, sound trip, surf online, cook food and look how boring our summer is. Haha!

*Can you calculate the heat of El Niño (El Niño is Spanish for “the boy” and refers to the Christ child, because periodic warming in the Pacific near South America is usually noticed around Christmas. ”La Niña” is Spanish for “the girl”) and some weather conditions caused by climate change? It’s burning hot!

Although we resided in a high-elevated setting that gives a breezy atmosphere all over the place and kept ourselves away from heat stroke through bathing nth times everyday, still we can’t handle the harshness of the heat any longer.

And come to think of it, even as the fan have been rotating all day all night – it’s still gundam hot! That’s why we abuse the usage of electric fans’ at home and soon realizes that our fans’ not working one by one.

Since we don’t have a budget on buying a brand new electric fan to replace the wrecked one’s, so Mama and Papa went to a repair shop last week to visibly restore the broken ones. But I think we surely need an air-con!

That’s why I’ll join The E Zone first contest cause I want to win an air condition for summer sake!
